Acute diverticulitis of the cecum is an uncommon disease. There were only 5 cases reported in Korea. W e had experienced one case of diverticulitis of the cecum recently at Dept. of Sur-gery, Korea General Hospital.
Clinical analysis was made for 5 cases, including 4 cases reported formerly by authors and reviewed the incidence of diverticulosis of the colon in Korea through 10 cases which was found in barium enema during three and a half years at Korea General Hospital.
The- incidence of diverticulosis of the colon in: Korea is 0.01~0.35%. It is very low rate compared with 5-8.5% in western region.
Among 10 cases of the divert culosis of the, colon, 9 cases located in the right side of the colon. The high incidence of right sided colon, which is considered as congenital origin, seeing to be related to high residual diet.
The cecal diverticulitis is very difficult to differentiate from acute appendicitis because of very similar symptoms and signs of acute appendicitis.
In case of palpable mass on right lower quadrant, it is confused with malignancy frequently.
